REDUCING WASTE
On average, every Czech person throws away 57 kg of food a year. This means that for the whole of the Czech Republic it is then 600,000 tons of food waste per year. The most common reason to throw away food is to spoil it (especially vegetables and pastries). Another reason is that we cook, prepare or serve too much food. Due to these two reasons, people in the Czech Republic waste 355,000 tons of food a year.
We don't waste energy and water
All SKM employees were instructed on the frugal use of energy and water.
More Efficient and Sustainable Hand Drying at MU Canteens
As part of our efforts to make the operations of the Masaryk University canteens more ecological and cost-effective, we have replaced paper towels with modern electric hand dryers in all the restrooms under our management.
This change brings several key benefits:
🔹 Environmental Sustainability – By removing paper towels, we significantly reduce the amount of waste and conserve the natural resources required for their production. We also lower the carbon footprint associated with the production, transportation, and disposal of paper waste.
🔹 Economic Efficiency – Investing in electric hand dryers pays off in the long run. While their initial cost may be higher than paper towels, operational costs are lower because there is no need for constant repurchasing and disposal of consumable materials.
🔹 Hygienic Aspects – Modern hand dryers use a powerful air stream, which minimizes contact with surfaces and contributes to better hygiene for users.
🔹 Reduced Logistical Burden – By removing paper towels, we save on storage, distribution, and waste disposal, simplifying our operational processes.
Limitation of Receipt Printing for Sustainability
As part of our commitment to reducing environmental impact, receipts are printed only upon request. Customers with a dining account can access their electronic receipts in the WebKredit or MobilKredit applications. This procedure complies with applicable legislation, specifically § 16 paragraph 1 of Act No. 634/1992 Coll. on Consumer Protection.
The goal of this change is to minimize paper consumption, reduce energy use, and support sustainable operations, contributing to environmental protection.
