New furniture at Bří. Žůrků; new roof at Vinařská

Bří. Žůrků residents can look forward to bespoke furniture; the damaged roof at Vinařská will be renovated and the two-year reconstruction at Kounicova is well underway. These are currently the three largest renovation projects at MU dormitories.

Having closed in early May, the Bří. Žůrků dormitory has been preparing for the general replacement of furniture. “After partial renovation of the interior in 2016, we will now modernise all double and triple rooms. The renovation consists in new desks, wardrobes, shelves and beds. Since the students have been gone for some time, usual maintenance is currently taking place, the old furniture is moved out, walls are painted, and the replacement of damaged flooring will follow,” says Head of Technical Services and IT at ACS MU Jana Fillová.

The replacement of furniture is scheduled to take place from mid June until mid August. “The contractor will be able to furnish both towers with bespoke furniture over a record-breaking period of two months. Everything will be done in time for the arriving students at the beginning of the academic year,” Fillová added.

The Bří. Žůrků dormitory already has a brand new step-free entrance and renovated front desk area. “During this summer we should also finish with the replacement of the leaky roof cladding at Tower B. Last year we repaired the roof terrace at the rear building, while this year’s renovation will be finished by the end of August,” Fillová explained.

In full swing since last November, the Kounicova dormitory is currently the largest renovation project, at CZK 250 million. It will welcome back its residents at the beginning of the 2025/2026 academic year. “Everything is going according to plan, including masonry, concrete slabs and installation of drywall partitions on higher floors. The works also include electrical installations, ventilation, air conditioning and sanitary installations,” says Marcela Dvořáková from the Infrastructure Development Office.

Renovations are scheduled to be finished during summer at the Vinařská dormitory; they include window replacement and thermal insulation and repairs of the façade. Emergency renovations of the roof damaged by a 2023 hailstorm are planned for the summer as well. In addition to the replacement of the roofing, sun blades must be removed and readjusted at all student accommodation buildings (A1, A2 and A3).
