Accommodation prices only to be adjusted for inflation

In spite of increasing costs, Masaryk University is not planning to increase the accommodation prices as such. The rent in 2025 will only reflect the inflation rate according to the data published by the Czech Statistical Office (CZSO).

Pursuant to Article III Clause 8 of the contract of accommodation, the application of the inflation clause applies to all residents, as unanimously agreed at the November session of the Accommodation Board. The Czech Statistical Office is expected to announce the inflation rate in the second half of January. The new price list, with the inflation clause applied, shall take effect on 1 February 2025.

The inflation clause is included in the accommodation contracts signed by all residents. “The purpose of the clause is to compensate the loss of the value of money. And since we cannot estimate the date of the announcement of the inflation rate, all residents will receive an e-mail by the end of January with the price list effective as of February,” Head of Accommodation at ACS Renata Pavlicová says.

“The costs of operation of the dormitories are increasing but we do not want to transfer the burden to students in the form of increased accommodation prices as such. Our goal is to provide sustainable accommodation, including economic sustainability. However we must take into consideration the developments in terms of inflation and economy. I would like to assure our students that the annual inflation rate should, according to the current estimates, be significantly lower than last year; only lower single digits,” says Masaryk University Bursar David Póč.

ACS renovates and modernises its dormitories on a continuous basis, typically during summer. More information of renovations can be found here.

The Rules of Accommodation will be subject to minor amendment and update of definitions of terms as of 1 January 2025.
