Dear students,
On behalf of Masaryk University, let me wish you a successful start of the new academic year and welcome you at your dormitories.
The first week of the academic year was unexpectedly hectic, which involved the postponement of the move-in day for all residents at MU dormitories. I hope this was a rare event and that the rest of the year will be calm and normal.
Due to heavy rainfall and the resulting flood risks along the banks of the confluence of our two rivers we decided to initiate preventive evacuation of the dormitories in Komárov and the arriving students were instructed about the postponed move-in day. I appreciate your cooperation and understanding, if the measures affected you. I would especially like to thank the management of ACS because they handled the emergency perfectly.
The dormitories were back to normal quite fast thanks to less serious development of the flood situation, compared with what the predictions had looked like. The management of MUNI believes that diligence and prevention is better than underestimated consequences in terms of property damage and lives.
As you can see in one of the newsletter articles, MU has long focused on improving of comfort of residents. We have recently finished some renovations; some are in progress; and some are scheduled to begin soon. We believe that comfortable accommodation plays a key role in the overall education process. It is not just about the equipment and design, it is about people too.
Let me conclude by asking you for respect towards the dormitories and your roommates. Do not leave “mess”, whatever it may mean, in the common areas, so that you can avoid “messing up” your relations. The community at your dorm will determine the conditions of your studies.
Let me wish you pleasant and life-changing studies full of beautiful memories.
